Mission
As stated in Amendment 38 to the CNMI Constitution, "The mission of Northern Marianas College shall be to provide the best quality and meaningful post secondary and adult educational opportunities for the purpose of improving the quality of life for the individual and for the Commonwealth as a whole. The College shall be responsible for providing education in the areas of adult and continuing education, post secondary and adult vocational education and professional development for the people of the Commonwealth.”
Institutional Philosophy
Respecting the human dignity and unique talents of each person, Northern Marianas College is dedicated to helping its students actualize their potentials for the enhancement of their individual lives as well as for the improvement of the Commonwealth as a whole. The College is committed to an on-going process of planning, assessment, re-evaluation, and improvement in all aspects of its mission.
Educational Philosophy
Northern Marianas College has as its educational purpose the preparation of students both to appreciate and to meet the demands of citizenship and profession. Accordingly, its associate degree programs are designed to reflect those characteristics that help define what constitutes an educated person.
Such characteristics include a level of general education that enables the individual to understand and appreciate his/her culture and environment; develop a system of personal values based on accepted ethics that lead to civic and social responsibility; and attain skills in information retrieval, analysis, communication, quantification, and synthesis necessary for further growth as a lifelong learner and a productive member of society. Through examination of various viewpoints in all topics of study, the College’s general education and program curricula encourage breadth as well as depth of learning and help students develop the ability to think critically and creatively about what they learn.
It is understood that not all of these elements are attained exclusively through organized courses, but that the intellectual and social climate of the institution and the variety of other learning activities engaged in by students may play an important part in the development of the educated individual.
