Dr. Sharon Hart Is New NMC President (May 31, 2011)

In its meeting held last week, the Board of Regents unanimously voted to appoint Dr. Sharon Hart as the Northern Marianas College’s new President.

“Dr. Sharon Hart possesses an extraordinary resume, with many years of proven academic and executive leadership,” said BOR Chairperson Juan Lizama during the meeting. “We firmly believe that she has the qualifications necessary to lead the College to unprecedented heights in providing high quality post secondary education to our students.”

Dr. Sharon Hart was one of the top three candidates advanced by the Presidential Search Committee. The other candidates included Dr. Christa Adams and Dr. Jeff Armstrong.

During the meeting, Lizama also commended Interim President Lorraine T. Cabrera for leading the College for the last year and a half.

“Interim President Lorraine Cabrera has served the College quite honorably in the past year and half as Interim President and for the past 18 years as a dedicated NMC employee,” Lizama said. “She is to be commended for her service, commitment, and dedication to the Northern Marianas College. Thank you Interim President Cabrera – we hope that that Board of Regents and the College can continue to count on your passion for students as we continue to grow as an institution.”

Lizama also acknowledged the generous contributions and significant work of the members of the presidential search committees.
